 “Climate Voices: Leading the Call for Change” brought together global leaders and activists to tackle climate challenges head-on!

Co-organized by 2050Today, Phenomenal Women Global, and International Gender Champions, with support from Open Geneva as part of the 2024 Open Innovation Festival.

 

Key discussions outputs

Climate Justice Dialogue:

  • Advocates passionately stressed the crucial importance of linking climate action to basic human rights, sparking a strong call for immediate action.
  • The dialogue highlighted the power of grassroots movements, underscoring the pivotal role of local communities in challenging governments and institutions to implement meaningful policies and initiatives.
  • Protecting and empowering vulnerable groups such as seniors, women and youth emerged as a central theme, sparking discussions to address the multifaceted impacts of climate change on marginalized communities.

 

Gender Equality Dialogue:

  • Attendees celebrated the remarkable achievements of women leaders in the climate activism sphere, while also acknowledging the persistent barriers they face in the male-dominated landscape.
  • There was a unanimous call for greater representation and active participation of women in decision-making processes related to climate policy and action, recognizing the invaluable contributions of diverse perspectives in driving effective and equitable solutions.
  • Empowering women through leadership roles, capacity building initiatives and inclusive policy frameworks emerged as pivotal strategies for fostering gender equality and advancing climate resilience on a global scale.

 

These outputs underscore the critical need for inclusive, rights-based climate action. Let’s harness this moment for a sustainable future!

 

Climate Voices: Leading the Call for Change

This event is supported by Open Geneva as part of the 2024 Open Innovation Festival.

Climate action at national and international levels in response to escalating consequences on the environment, health, and human rights is of paramount importance. In this perspective, it is recommended to act on key objectives to set the adequate framework in particular by recognising and elaborating on the role of youth, fostering empowerment, promoting diversity and inclusion, facilitating inter-disciplinary knowledge exchange, and catalysing action and collaboration.

The event proposes two Dialogue sessions gathering international experts, as well as youth, senior, and gender activists.

The sessions will touch on various aspects of the Sustainable Development Goals including SDGs 3, 5, 11, 12, 13, and 17.

Session 1: Climate Justice Dialogue will address local realities impacting civil society, seniors, women, and youth to challenge states, framing their climate action as human rights-based and seeking protection under humanitarian law. 

Session 2: Gender Equality Dialogue will aim at acknowledging the achievements and challenges Women Leaders face. It will also seek to ensure increased action and involvement of women in decision-making processes and support female-led actions on climate change.
