2050Today - Thematic Group Biodiversity

Explore CERN's biodiversity

Thursday 18.09.2025, 10:00-12:00

2050Today, in collaboration with CERN, is organizing a visit to discover CERN’s biodiversity.

The CERN site covers more than 600 hectares between Switzerland and France, including 116 hectares of green spaces, 136 hectares of woods and forests, and 258 hectares of agricultural land leased to local farmers. CERN is home to 18 species of orchid and a wide variety of flora, including some threatened species. On the day of our visit, we hope to be lucky enough to spot the Autumn Lady’s Tresses (Spiranthes spiralis), a rare and endangered orchid.

The visit is divided into two parts:

Part I (indoor)

1. Presentation of CERN and its biodiversity plan (10:00-11:00)

2. Group discussion (11:00-11:15)

Part II (outdoor)

3. Walk around the sites of interest mentioned during the presentation (11:15-11:50)

4. Conclusion (11:50-12:00)

This event is hybrid, in French and in English.

Registration deadline September 15, 2025. As places are limited, priority will be given to 2050Today members.
