Step 2: Define your action plan
Set concrete objectives and plan actions accordig to your priorities and emission sectors
Once the carbon footprint assessment is completed, participating institutions will identify priority sectors for action based on their largest emission sources and the recommendations provided by 2050Today. They will then select the sectors where they wish to commit and develop targeted action plans.
The goal of these thematic action plans is to establish a clear roadmap to reduce the institution’s greenhouse gas emissions by planning concrete measures to be implemented over the next five years.
Institutions may choose to define their action plans in the following areas:
Participating institutions are required to communicate their chosen sectors of action to 2050Today within 6 months of signing the Charter.
Once sectors are selected, institutions should consult the sectoral guidelines.
These guidelines provide:
- Management Objective :
For each selected sector, institutions are invited to establish a management framework to:
-
-
-
Implement measures that ensure the action plan is carried out.
-
Monitor sustainability performance over time.
-
Promote change and engage all stakeholders.
-
-
These objectives apply to all sectors, though the actions required may vary. The appendix of the guidelines provides sector-specific recommendations.
- Thematic Objectives :
Thematic objectives focus on concrete climate actions within each sector. They are designed to guide institutions in defining impactful measures and are available on the Guidelines page of each sector.
After reviewing the guidelines, the institutions assess their current situation in each selected sector using the assessment and action plan tool. This tool enables them to
-
Identify measures already in place
-
Compare existing practices with the recommendations
-
Highlight actions not yet implemented but that could be adopted
Once the evaluation is completed, institutions select the measures they will implement and plan their timeline across:
-
Short term (1 year)
-
Medium term (3 years)
-
Long term (After 5 years)
Nine months after signing the 2050Today charter, each institution submits a draft action plan to 2050Today. Based on this project, 2050Today assesses the potential impact and estimates the CO2e savings between now and 2030.
Institutions must ensure that their final action plan aligns with the reduction targets set by the Paris Agreement. The final plan is formally adopted one year after signing the Charter.
A simplified action plan is also available for smaller institutions or those with limited resources. This pre-filled plan proposes 14 high-impact actions in the areas of mobility, energy and food, with targets for years 1, 3 and 5, enabling institutions to start implementing effective measures now.
