Step 2: Define your action plan
Set concrete objectives and plan actions accordig to your priorities and emission sectors
Once the carbon footprint assessment is complete, participating institutions will identify priority areas for action based on their main sources of emissions and recommendations provided by 2050Today. They will then select the sectors in which they wish to engage and develop targeted action plans.
The aim of these thematic action plans is to establish a clear roadmap for reducing the institution’s greenhouse gas emissions by planning concrete measures to be implemented over the next five years.
Institutions may choose to define their action plans in the following areas:
Participating institutions are required to communicate their chosen areas of action to 2050Today within six months of signing the charter.
Once the sectors have been selected, institutions must consult the sectoral guidelines.
These guidelines provide for
- Management objective:
For each selected sector, institutions are invited to establish a management framework for:
-
-
-
Implement measures to ensure the action plan is carried out.
-
Monitor sustainability performance over time.
-
Promote change and involve all stakeholders.
-
-
These objectives apply to all sectors, although the actions required may vary. The appendix to the guidelines contains specific recommendations for each sector.
- Thematic objectives:
The thematic objectives focus on concrete climate actions in each sector. They are designed to guide institutions in defining effective measures and are available on the guidelines page for each sector.
After reviewing the guidelines, institutions assess their current situation in each selected area using the assessment tool and action plan. This tool enables them to
-
Identify measures already in place
-
Compare existing practices with recommendations
-
Highlight actions that have not yet been implemented but could be adopted.
Once the assessment is complete, institutions select the measures they will implement and plan their timetable:
-
Short term (1 year)
-
Medium term (3 years)
-
Long term (after 5 years)
Nine months after signing the 2050Today charter, each institution submits a draft action plan to 2050Today. Based on this project, 2050Today assesses the potential impact and estimates CO₂e savings by 2030.
Institutions must ensure that their final action plans are aligned with the reduction targets set by the Paris Agreement. The final plan is formally adopted one year after the charter is signed.
A simplified action plan is also available for smaller institutions or those with limited resources. This pre-filled plan proposes 14 high-impact actions in the areas of mobility, energy and food, with targets for years 1, 3 and 5, enabling institutions to start implementing effective measures right away.
