In accordance with the 2050Today Charter, we mobilize climate action by helping our members measure their emissions, implement common and customized solutions through working groups and benefit from applied research. We include over 60 institutions of International Geneva.
2050Today is developed as a partnership of the Swiss Confederation, the Republic and Canton of Geneva, the City of Geneva, the University of Geneva and Industrial Services of Geneva (SIG). This unique initiative by Swiss authorities of all levels supports the decarbonization of International Geneva.
These five institutions represent the 2050Today Committee of the Parties, as stipulated in the Convention of Collaboration signed in June 2022, and witnessed by the United Nations Office at Geneva, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Rwanda and the World Council of Churches.
The University of Geneva is the hosting institution of 2050Today.
When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don't adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.
In order to implement the 2050Today Charter, we assist institutions of International Geneva reduce their greenhouse gas emissions through three pillars:

As primary advocates and responsible for a multilateral and inclusive climate action, 2050Today members share experiences, solutions and practices to foster and facilitate the implementation of efficient measures with a sense of solidarity and cooperation.
We are committed to reach net zero GHG emissions by 2050
We measure our GHG emissions on a regular and verified basis. Due the variety of institutions part of 2050Today, the collected data resulting in each carbon footprint is not yet fully standardized. The data collection is being progressively harmonized.
We aim at reducing our emissions every year by 5% to achieve at least 50% reduction by 2030. These targets are undertaken on the basis of the best of our possibilities. Due to the diversity of institutions, the initial carbon footprint reference may not be identical and minor differences may appear in the targets.

2050Today was launched in October 2020 as a climate action initiative by the permanent Missions of Denmark, Fiji, France, Mexico, Morocco, Rwanda, Slovenia, Switzerland, United Nations Office at Geneva and United Nations Environment Programme – European Office with the contribution of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change secretariat and the support of local authorities and bodies. During its initial phase, it has been coordinated by the Mission of Switzerland. As of June 2022, 2050Today has been established as an autonomous entity administratively attached to the University of Geneva.
